Hi bloggers! Well, it's the third day of the tour and we're having a wonderfully eventful time so far!!!
After a very boozy journey on Monday, we arrived in Lincolnshire to prepare for our first match. On Monday night the first select XI from our squad faced Owmby Cricket Club in a Twenty20 match.

Darcy Lever won the toss and captain Paul Smethurst chose to bat. Despite a rather slow innings, the visitors managed to put 103 up on the board, losing six wickets. Jimmy Hill, man of the match, hit the highest score of 36 not out, closely followed by Adam Rowan who managed 30.

Reduced light made the second innings rather tough but saw Darcy Lever take eight wickets and Owmby level their score of 103. Matt Rudderfird was Owmby's highest scorer with 26, while for Darcy Lever, Grant Cordin took three wickets for 19 runs off four overs. The match resulted in a tie.

Long time no blog...

THE first few months of the season have been very busy...

We've completed the first round of games now and it's back to Edgworth this Saturday but with the 2nd XI sitting pretty at the top of the league and the 1st XI floating around the top 5, there's still a lot to achieve! The 2nd XI must defend the top spot and the 1st XI must do the best to claw its way back up. Meanwhile the 3rd XI is holding third place in division four of the North Manchester league.

There have been a lot of dramatic matches including a last ball win for the 2nd XI v Little Hulton, while an intense match between the 1stXI and Flixton CC 1st XI, saw Darcy Lever lose by two runs on the last ball.

We've also been getting up to lots off the pitch. What with discos, karaoke, the World Cup and charity matches, it's certainly been a busy season!

Check out a few of our pictures...

Tomorrow's the day!

It's finally here. The first official game of the season is tomorrow afternoon against Edgworth. The 1st XI will play at home while the 2nd XI will visit Edgworth.
The game should be an eventful start to the season as the 1st XI's away match a Edgworth last August saw the hosts defeated on the very last ball of the game in an exciting final over bowled by captain Dominic Gavin. It was looking bad for Darcy Lever throughout the second innings of the game and defeat looked certain even in the final over until a tremendous spell from Gavin saw Edgworth's Liam Watkinson run out on the final ball, leaving Darcy victorious by a single run.

This season will once again see Darcy Lever fighting to reach the all important top spot after narrowly losing out to Walshaw Cricket Club last season, finishing second in the league.

The 2nd XI will also be looking to up their game after last year winning the Isherwood Cup in a heated home final against Edgworth and also finished second in the league.

The Juniors saw a few trophies last season including one for the Under 17's (18's) who finished top of the league for the first time ever. The under 13's saw a double whammy, winning the league and the cup.

A friendly match against Farnworth Cricket Club last Saturday saw Darcy Lever defeated by a mere nine runs after a rather interesting match and a great batting spell which resulted in a century for Nick Fawcett.

Last Sunday saw everybody gather at the club to welcome this season's three overseas players. The boys landed in England from Perth, Australia on Sunday evening and came straight to the club to be welcomed with open arms.
Cameron Murray played amateur cricket at Darcy last season alongside Jimmy Deering who returns this year as the club professional. The pair brought with them a new face, Dayne Ferry, to join the ranks at that little club on Hacken Lane.

We are also joined by Michael Spence who has come to us from Golborne Cricket Club and by Adam Rowan who has made the switch from League to Association and joined us from Tonge Cricket Club.

We look forward to seeing what the new faces bring to the club.

It looks like it's going to be a great season and what better way to begin than with a spell of gorgeous weather... let's hope it holds out!!

Log on next week to see photos and check how we got on with the weekend's games!!!

It's almost time!!

Cricket season is only a few weeks away now and I'm sure that the odd bits of sunshine are getting everybody in the mood! We'll be starting our preparations soon.
On Good Friday we always get everybody down to the club to muck in with all the odd jobs... This yearly 'muck-in' session is known as the Good Friday Agreement...

Mostly, activities fall into the following categories:
- Painting something that doesn't really need painting
- Burning things (old or new)
- Doing the charity run (which no-one ever runs)
- Moving things to and from the old changing rooms which never appear to get any emptier or cleaner
- Scraping weeds from the paving on 'the-front'

If you are not involved in any of these categories, then you are likely to fit into either of the following two categories...
- Male (age 5 - 30) and can be found attempting one of the above activities for about half an hour before giving up and leathering a football at whoever is driving the roller or rhoberine!!
- Female (any age) and in the kitchen making brekkie for those 'at work'!!

But we really do spend all day hard at work to get 'That little club on Hacken Lane' up to scratch for the upcoming season and it certainly gets everybody in the mood.

Watch this space for photos and stories of everybody hard at work on Good Friday!!!
